Slater Outdoor Education Garden - "Seed To Fiber"
Brought to you by: Kadu Color Garden
Slater Elementary School Girl Scouts At Piedmont Park
Slater Girl Scout Troop # 9415
The girls had a wonderful time visiting Piedmont Park. They saw ducks fishing for fish, they ate delicious lunches on the grass, after working in the Kadu Color Garden. The Girls Scouts used "Fall Leaves" as their inspiration to design a fabric pattern. After learning how to harvest the carrots and beets, they designed a replica fabric by arranging carrots, carrot tops and different colored leaves on recycled paper which will be photographed. The photo design will be transferredby computer to a iron on patch applique which can be placed on jeans or a t-shirt for a project to be completed at home. For a special treat they also visited the Green Market and sampled Goat cheese, Japanese Persimmons , fruits and chocolate pasta. It was a fun and educational day. The girls spent the day at Piedmont Park it was a great experience for everyone. They helped Camille straighten the bamboo stakes, pulled dead leaves off the tomato plant, picked beets and tomatoes while exploring the Educational Garden. After enjoying lunch we walked over to the Green Market and sampled goat cheese and crackers, Japanese persimnons, snap peas, apple cider and one daring Girl Scout tried a very hot Jalenpeno pepper, it was not a good experience. We appreciate Holly, the Green Market Manager taking time out from her busy schedule to answer questions and explaining the importance of local organic gardens. Kids and Teens have so much fun when learning about the operations of shooting a video shoot.
They soon begin to realize what is seen on videos and TV is rehearsed and can be edited to
appear flawless. Watching yourself doing good things also builds confidence and self-esteem.
